Clarity Doesn’t Always Come Before the First Step

Sometimes we convince ourselves that we need to have everything figured out before we move. We need the plan. We need the answers. We need to know exactly where we’re going and exactly how we’re going to get there. But sometimes, clarity comes because you moved—not before you moved. Think about driving at night. Your headlights don’t illuminate the entire road from where you are to your destination. They simply give you enough light to see what’s immediately ahead. And somehow, that’s enough to keep going. Life can work the same way.

You May Not Need the Whole Plan

Maybe you know something needs to change, but you’re not completely sure what the next chapter is supposed to look like.

That doesn’t mean you’re stuck.

Your next step might simply be making the phone call, sending the application, starting the journal, having the conversation, researching the idea, setting the boundary, or asking for help.

One small decision can reveal information you couldn’t see while standing still.

Movement Creates Information

Every step teaches you something.

  • You discover what fits.
  • You discover what doesn’t.
  • You learn what you want.
  • You recognize what you’ve outgrown.

Even a step that doesn’t lead where you expected can give you information that helps you choose your next direction.

That’s why movement matters.

Give Yourself Permission to Begin

You don’t have to know exactly how the story ends before you start writing the next page. You just need enough courage to take the step that is available to you right now.

Clarity may not be waiting at the starting line. It may be waiting a few steps down the road.

Your New Direction Moment:
What is one step you already know you can take even if you don’t know what comes after it?
